CMS screens second grade students to determine which students will participate in the Talent Development (TD) program, the program for gifted students.

On September 9th, 10th, and 12th, second grade students will be given the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).

The CogAT includes verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning questions.
There is no way to study for the CogAT.
Plenty of sleep and a good breakfast are helpful since alert students perform better.

Click on the parent letter for more information.

Some practice questions have been completed in school to help students feel relaxed and prepared. Practice questions and teacher guides are cannot be posted due to copyright issues.

Below is a valuable link to aid in interpretation of the test score.
You will need to enter your child's score profile (found in the last column of your score report), and receive some information tailored to your child's specific learning needs. Your child may find this information helpful and interesting as well, to better understand themselves as a learner.
